After poetic verses about winter, the chorus asks “Why don’t we hibernate like the bears and sleep the winter away?” which is how Paige feels about this chilly season.

As soft and gentle as the quiet snow of winter, “Hibernate” has beautiful guitar and strings. After poetic lyrics about the beauty of winter, Paige comes inside for Brunswick stew, her easy chair and the cat in her lap by the fire. The bridge is dream-like, to go with the words, “And I dream of iced tea at cookouts in yards full of green…” The song finishes with “Don’t leave from the blankets or my arms…” and ends with the answer to the question, “Why don’t we hibernate?” in the chorus, surrounded by full harmonies. When Paige performs this song live, everyone in the audience is invited to sing along to the chorus, which they do!

Hibernate

words and music by Paige Powell                      ©2006 Paige E. Powell

1. The icicles shine like glass chandeliers

Line drawings in ink are branching the skies

I should get my paints — I should be inspired

The cold tries to slap the sleep from my eyes

Chorus: Why don’t we hibernate like the bears

And sleep the winter away?

Why don't we hibernate like the bears

And sleep the winter away!

2. Indoors from the cold for Brunswick stew

My soft easy chair by the cracking fire

The cat in my lap curled into a nap

Inspiring my drowsy eyes to retire   (Repeat Chorus)

Bridge: And I dream of iced tea at cookouts in yards full of green

Eating an ice cream in my dreamsicle, creamsicle dream

3. Don’t leave from the blankets or my arms

Our love and our life’s too good to believe

Let’s just stay in bed until it is Spring

The warmth of your hug is too good to leave

  (Repeat Chorus)
